A storm has triggered a cluster of five wildfires about 100 km east of Inuvik, NWT Fire says. Crews are monitoring them and they aren’t threatening any communities or infrastructure.

Meanwhile, fire ZF004, described as “near Cassidy Point” north of Yellowknife, was being worked on by crews as of Monday afternoon.

According to NWT Fire’s website, ZF004 was human-caused and related to burning grass. It is now listed as being under control.

There was no significant change to the fires burning southwest of Norman Wells for the past week. A fire south of Highway 1 and west of Kakisa Lake in the South Slave, SS005, is being held.

Hot and dry conditions are expected across most of the territory this week, with some heat warnings already in place. NWT Fire said lightning may also be a factor.

In Wood Buffalo National Park, Parks Canada said crews from outside the area are “demobilizing and travelling back to their home locations” with the Klewi Complex fires now being held.

The federal agency said there is currently minimal fire activity from the complex and the park’s own fire management personnel will continue managing it.
