NWT Fire says crews have begun tackling a wildfire between the Dehcho community of Jean Marie River and Highway 1.
The community of about 70 people was menaced repeatedly by fires in 2025.
Fire FS006 was described as being about seven kilometres south of the community by the territory’s wildfire agency on Tuesday, though just 0.1 hectares in size.
“Crews are actioning it,” NWT Fire stated.
The fire was described as naturally caused according to NWT Fire’s website, which gave its location as west of the access road that connects Jean Marie River to the highway.
Meanwhile, NWT Fire said crews in the Sahtu had “extinguished almost all of the east flank” of a 15,788-hectare wildfire southwest of Norman Wells.
