The City of Yellowknife is holding a public hearing next week on its proposal to rezone part of the Burwash subdivision for housing development.
The city is hoping to rezone a portion of two city-owned lots bounded by Burwash Drive, Con Road, Rycon Drive, 55 Street and 56 Street from “natural area” to “residential central zone.”
The municipality then proposes to subdivide those lots into five residential lots and three multi-unit or townhouse lots, while maintaining some green space.
A public hearing on that plan is scheduled for 12pm on July 15 at City Hall.
Anyone who wants to speak at the hearing can contact the city clerk’s office beforehand at 867-920-5646. If unable to attend the hearing, you can authorize another person to speak on your behalf.
The deadline for written submissions has closed.
A public hearing is required as Yellowknife’s zoning bylaw needs to be amended before the city’s plan can go ahead. The proposal will also need to be approved by council.
Councillors have so far expressed general support for the plan, saying they feel it balances housing development and the preservation of green space.
