Yellowknife’s Got Talent – Youth Edition
Yellowknife Youth, let’s see your talent!
GENERAL EVENT INFO
Background
In a collaboration between Home Base Yellowknife and Ice Cold Collective YK, the Hear Me Out! program presents Yellowknife’s Got Talent – Youth Edition.
Located on Chief Drygeese Territory, Yellowknife’s Got Talent is an event to promote and recruit youth to join the Hear Me Out! program. Hear Me Out! is a free program for youth which aims to be an outlet for youth to support their overall health and well-being as well as to rediscover/discover their culture and identity and to express themselves through different forms of Art. All forms of art are welcome!
In the past, we’ve mainly focused on written, oral, and visual forms of art which included music, creative writing, and drawing, but this year we’d like to expand it! Thus, this talent show will be an opportunity for us to get a sense of the different talents youth have in the arts (mainly on the performative side). Acts can range from music, dancing, magic, comedy, poetry, juggling, story telling, athletics, etc.
Format & Prizing
This talent show will consist of 4 Coaches and 4 Teams (depending on the number of participants, it might be less). Youth will audition in front of the 4 coaches and will have an opportunity to choose to join the team of the coaches who are interested in their act. Auditions will take place on Friday, October 27th from 8pm-10pm at the Yellowknife Youth Centre (4903 50 St – beside Overlander Sports).
After auditions, coaches will meet with their teams to support with the preparation of their team’s acts ahead of the Showcase. All teams will then perform at the Showcase event in front of an audience that consists of members in our community. There will also be guest judges to provide additional scoring on each performance. The Showcase event will take place on Friday, November 3rd from 7pm-10pm at Northern United Place.
At the Showcase, the audience will vote on their top 5 individual acts. Each vote equals 1 point. Judges votes are worth 5 points and are based on their favourite team (i.e. judges will vote for 1 team). The team with the most points will win a prize.
All of the youth on the winning team will earn a prize to contribute to fostering their talent’s. The prizes are as follows:
- All participants will receive $250 Visa giftcard
- 1st place team: Additional prizes, Winner Stamped Shirts
