Nobody has been arrested or charged, nearly 10 days after two people were killed on a Yellowknife residential street.

RCMP say their investigation suggests both people were shot on Bigelow Crescent early on Saturday, March 16. Officers have called the incident a double homicide.

A subsequent appeal for video footage from nearby homes has generated “a lot of cooperation from the greater community,” a police spokesperson said on Monday, but RCMP say people who know what happened are not being forthcoming.

“We are not receiving the same level of cooperation from all of the witnesses in this case and this has created challenges,” Cpl Matt Halstead said by email.

“We know there are people out there who have information about this horrible event, who have not come forward. We need these people to do the right thing and reach out to us as soon as possible.”

Police have connected the double killing to Yellowknife’s drug trade. There isn’t believed to be a risk to the wider public.

Some of the video submitted by residents – from security cameras, doorbell cameras and the like – “has been helpful,” Halstead said.

However, he added, “the video alone will not bring this incident to a conclusion and help bring closure to families of the victims.”

Anyone with any information about what happened is asked to call the Yellowknife detachment at 867-669-1111 or leave a tip online.
