One of the NWT’s biggest trades challenges returns to Yellowknife’s multiplex for the first time in five years next week.

The Skills Canada Territorial Competition gives youth the chance to test their ability in 15 categories like carpentry, baking, photography and mobile robotics.

Skills Canada NWT says it’s expecting more than 50 competitors at this year’s event on Tuesday, May 7.

Top performers can earn selection to the NWT team competing at Skills Canada nationals in Quebec City at the end of May.

In a press release, Skills Canada said this is the first Territorial Competition at the multiplex since 2019. The pandemic disrupted some events and turned them into virtual contests, while last year’s Territorial Competition was held at the city’s two high schools.
