RCMP say a man has died after being shot inside a Yellowknife apartment building in the early hours of Friday.
Police say they arrived at 42 Con Road at around 1am to find the 31-year-old “suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.” Despite the efforts of emergency responders, RCMP say he died at the scene.
A police major crimes unit and forensics team are leading the investigation.
Anyone in the building who heard what happened or saw anything suspicious is asked to call police at 867-669-1111 or leave a tip anonymously online.
“Any information, even something as small as just having heard something or seen someone moving around the building, may be helpful to investigators,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl Matt Halstead in a news release.
Halstead said this is the fourth homicide involving guns in Yellowknife since November 2023.
“Firearm-related violence in has no place in our community. We need witnesses to come forward and to help us provide answers to the victim’s family, who is now grieving an unimaginable loss,” he wrote.
On March 16, RCMP reported a double homicide on Bigelow Crescent that police later confirmed had involved gunshot wounds. When police last provided an update, that case was unresolved.
In late November, a homicide was reported on the city’s 47 Street. It’s not clear whether anyone has since been charged in connection.
