NorthWords seeks 2024 book award nominations

Have you written an award-worthy book?

NorthWords has opened submissions for its 2024 book awards.

Works eligible for nomination include novels, children’s books, collections of short stories, poetry and essays, creative non-fiction and memoirs that have northern themes and settings.

Authors must either:

  • have been raised or schooled in the NWT with strong ties to the territory maintained;
  • have lived in the territory for at least five years; or
  • currently live in the NWT and have been here for at least one year before their book was released.

The awards have two categories – children/youth and adult – which each offer a prize of $1,000.

Submissions close on August 16. Winners will be announced in October.

The winner of the 2023 youth award was Christal Doherty for How the Raven Turned Black. Katłıà won the adult category for her book This House is Not a Home.

To submit a work for consideration, authors and publishers can email NorthWords with the title of the book, author’s name, publisher, publication date, illustrator, submission category and cover art.

Three hard copies of the book must also be mailed to NorthWords NWT Book Awards, PO Box 903, Main St, Yellowknife, NT X1A 2N7
