Kele Antoine has been narrowly re-elected as Chief of the Łı́ı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́ First Nation, according to results posted on the First Nation’s Facebook page on Thursday.
A statement of results suggested Antoine had received 119 votes to challenger Mavis Cli-Michaud’s 110.
Antoine came through a six-way contest for chief in 2021 to secure his first term in office. Cli-Michaud, a former chair of the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board, placed second behind Shane Thompson when she ran for the role of Nahendeh MLA last fall.
In an interview with Cabin Radio prior to election day, Antoine had promised to use a second term to advance the likes of community activities, language revitalization and housing.
Cli-Michaud had said she would prioritize education, healthcare and homelessness.
Eight councillors were also elected on Thursday: James Antoine, Brandon Bugghins, Dennis Deneyoua, Bianca Gargan, Josanne Kenny, Brian Martineau, Nathan McPherson and James Tsetso.
