The NWT’s wildfire agency says it has sent crews and resources to help with firefighting efforts in Alberta and Oregon.
“The NWT has been fortunate to be able to call on the help of fellow Canadians and those further abroad to help in our firefighting efforts in the past. We are now proud to return the favour,” NWT Fire said in an update on Thursday evening.
The wildfire agency told Cabin Radio on Friday that three people have been sent to Salem, Oregon, 25 people have been sent to northern Alberta to help with the Semo Complex and Melvin River fire complexes burning near High Level, two to Parks Canada in Jasper, and one person to Alberta Wildfire headquarters in Edmonton. Three additional people will be sent from the territory to Alberta on Monday.
During last year’s wildfire season – the NWT’s worst on record – firefighters from across Canada and as far as South Africa travelled to the territory to assist with firefighting efforts.
NWT Fire said all wildfires currently burning in the territory are being monitored or actioned by crews.
