Wolf ‘nipped’ person on Ranney Hill Trail, department warns

The NWT’s Department of Environment and Climate Change is warning hikers that a wolf was spotted on the Ranney Hill Trail.

In a Facebook post on Sunday afternoon, the department said the lone grey wolf approached a person on the trail and was “acting aggressively, eventually making contact.” The department later clarified in the comments that the animal had “nipped” the person “from behind.”

The department said the trail near Vee Lake has been temporarily closed and wildlife officers are patrolling the area. It advised residents to pay attention to signage and avoid the area.

Anyone who sees a wolf in the area is asked to keep their distance and report it by calling the North Slave region’s wildlife emergency line at 867-446-2073.
