Collège Nordique says it has received official accreditation from the NWT government to become a post-secondary institution.
In a Monday press release, Angélique Ruzindana Umunyana, chair of the board of directors for Collège Nordique, said this is “a significant milestone” in the history of the institution.
“With this recognition by the GNWT, our college is now positioned among the family of official minority language institutions from coast to coast to coast,” she said in a statement.
“I would like to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to this project, especially our community members whose hard work and determination brought this institution to life. Collège Nordique is truly an institution built by, for, and with our community.”
Collège Nordique offers professional, language and continuing education courses.
Ruzindana Umunyana said accreditation means the institution can now develop and deliver its own quality-assured programs through the territorial government’s quality assurance process.
She said it will also mean more options for northerners to access post-secondary education close to home and allow students to benefit from access to student financial assistance.
