The 2025 edition of Inuvik’s Great Northern Arts Festival will run from July 9-14, organizers say.
Adi Scott will return as the event’s executive director with Hailey Verbonac serving as festival coordinator, a press release stated.
The festival’s board said it was “extremely proud” of the 2024 edition, which followed the cancellation of 2023’s event in part over “major staffing concerns.”
“Reviving a festival of this magnitude requires strong leadership and determination, two qualities our team was never short of,” the board said in a statement, pointing to more than $60,000 in sales generated in 2024 alongside nearly $10,000 in donations and sponsorship.
The theme for 2025’s festival will be “tales of the Taiga,” otherwise known as the boreal forest.
“During the week of July 9 to July 14, 2025, the Great Northern Arts Festival plans to incorporate contemporary and traditional art exhibits, crafting legends workshops, music and dance performances, as well as storytelling sessions throughout the exciting festival schedule,” the press release continued.
“We also hope to continue to enhance our community engagement through collaborative art projects and an array of projects through which our youth can get involved.”
Meanwhile, sessions will be held in the coming months to solicit public feedback on a five-year strategic plan for the festival, which is nearing its 40th edition.
