The Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government says it is offering payments to help Délı̨nę beneficiaries in Norman Wells who recently faced high home heating fuel costs.
In October and November, the price of home heating fuel spiked in the Sahtu town as lone supplier Imperial Oil brought it in by air following the failure of the summer barge resupply season.
Some households said they feared bills of $5,000 to $10,000 a month or more.
The GNWT stepped in on November 15 to subsidize the wholesale cost of fuel, while Imperial said it would spread the extra cost of air freight over a longer period, reducing the immediate cost but obliging residents to pay more in the months ahead.
The Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government said it is now offering “one-time assistance to the Délı̨nę Beneficiaries residing in Norman Wells directly affected by the increase in
heating fuel for the period between October 1 to November 15.”
You need to fill out a form to claim the assistance. You also have to own your home in Norman Wells and be able to provide fuel receipts in your name.
The form is available on the DGG’s website.
