NWT opens survey on tourism strategy

The Northwest Territories government is asking residents to provide their input on its upcoming tourism strategy.

The territorial government is working to develop Tourism 2030, a strategy that it hopes will “ensure sustainable growth in the tourism sector” over the next five years.

The NWT government is inviting residents and industry professionals to provide their input on the strategy through online surveys until March 31.

A series of in-person sessions will also be held in the following communities:

  • Inuvik: Industry session on Tuesday, February 4 at 6pm and public session Wednesday, February 5 at 6pm at Ingamo Hall.
  • Fort Simpson on Tuesday, February 11: Industry session at 2:30pm and public session at 6pm in Łı́ı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́ First Nation Board Room.
  • Behchokǫ̀ on Thursday, February 13: Industry session at 2:30pm and public session 6pm at the cultural centre.
  • Yellowknife: Industry session on Monday, February 17, public session on Monday, March 3 at 6pm, and industry session on Thursday, March 6 at 2pm at the Yellowknife Visitor Centre.
  • Norman Wells on Thursday, February 20: Industry session at 2pm and public session at 6pm at the Legion.
  • Hay River on Tuesday, March 4: Industry session at 2pm and public session at 6pm at the community hall.
  • Łútsël K’é on Wednesday, March 5: Public and industry sessions both at 1pm at the community hall

The territorial government said feedback from the surveys and engagement sessions will inform the development of Tourism 2030, which is set to be released in April 2026.
