French organizations from all three territories are organizing a symposium on leadership in equity, diversity and inclusion.
The Association Franco-Yukonnaise, College Nordique Francophone and Association des francophones du Nunavut announced the pan-territorial symposium in a Wednesday news release.
According to the press release, the French language symposium will include nine conferences and workshops “specifically designed for northern realities.” Sessions will explore themes such as linguistic diversity, resilience and social justice and the groups said they will “provide concrete tools to strengthen inclusive leadership.”
Patrick Arsenault, executive director of College Nordique Francophone, said there are limited opportunities for training on best practices in inclusive leadership in French, particularly in the North.
“More than ever, it is essential that we rethink our organizations so that they are more inclusive. This pan-territorial symposium fills a critical need for Northerners who are in leadership positions or who aspire to be in them,” he stated.
“Today the Canadian Francophonie, and particularly in the territories, is increasingly diverse,” added Christine Ouaka, executive director of the Association Franco-Yukonnaise. “It is important that our organizations demonstrate leadership on these issues and are equipped to better collaborate and work with people from all backgrounds and life journeys.”
The symposium will take place online as well as in person on:
- Tuesday, March 4 in Iqaluit at the Franco-Centre;
- Wednesday, March 5 in Whitehorse at the Centre de la francophonie; and
- Thursday, March 6 in Yellowknife at College Nordique.
People interested in attending can register online.
