The NWT Brewing Company has launched a limited-edition lager in celebration of the 2025 Snowkings’ Winter Festival.

The brewery recently released cans of Snowkings’ Triple X Lager, which feature an image of the Snowking in front of the Snowcastle.

This year’s festival, the 30th edition, is being billed as Snowking XXX.

Fletcher Stevens, co-owner of NWT Brewing Co, said the new brew was inspired by the Snowking himself, Anthony Foliot.

Snowking is already a big fan of Kicksled, the brewery’s staple cream ale. So the company came up with a “really crisp, really refreshing” light lager as a new offering.

Stevens said the brewery has produced nearly 1,500 cans of Snowkings’ Triple X Lager, or around 800 litres. It’s the first time the festival has had its own brew.

“We hope that it can turn into something more that could happen every year,” he said, adding the brewery previously produced a Long John Red for the former Long John Jamboree.

“We really, really want to keep these festivals alive in Yellowknife. It kind-of gives Yellowknife its character.”

Stevens noted this year is both the 10th anniversary of the brewery and the festival’s 30-year mark.

“The festival does so much for us when it’s going on in March,” he said. “We get a lot of traffic from people that are visiting the castle and they’ll come and they’ll have lunch or something to warm up at the pub. We’ve always been very, very closely knit during the month of March.”

The cans for the new suds feature a QR code that brings people to the festival’s schedule.

Stevens added the Woodyard Brewhouse and Eatery is planning a special feature for March that will include a beer and an as-yet undisclosed sandwich. He said each order of the combo will contribute $2 toward the festival.

The beer is currently available for purchase in four-packs at The Woodyard Bottle Shop and will be served as singles in the restaurant. Stevens said he is hoping other establishments in Yellowknife’s Old Town, and possibly elsewhere in the city, will also carry the lager.

An official launch party for Snowkings’ Triple X Lager is planned for the Woodyard Brewhouse and Eatery on Thursday night.
