A ceremony on Monday morning will remember Yellowknife firefighters Cyril Fyfe and Kevin Olson, who lost their lives in a building fire on March 17, 2005.
In a news release, the City of Yellowknife said a public ceremony will take place at the fire department’s memorial park from 10am.
Cyril was in his early forties and Kevin 24 years old when the roof of the Home Building Centre on Old Airport Road collapsed as they were fighting a fire inside the building.
Kevin passed away at the scene. Cyril lost his life in hospital four days later.
The fire hall’s flags will be lowered to half-mast on Monday in their memory.
“This annual memorial provides the public with an opportunity to reflect on the legacy of first responders, who face immense risks daily in service to our community, and to honour the bravery and dedication of all members of the firefighting profession,” the city stated.
