Cabin Radio will broadcast a 90-minute live debate between the NWT’s federal election candidates on Thursday, April 10. Three out of four candidates say they’ll appear.

New Democratic Party candidate Kelvin Kotchilea, Liberal Party candidate Rebecca Alty and Green Party candidate Rainbow Eyes – also known as Angela Davidson – have confirmed they will take part.

Conservative Party candidate Kimberly Fairman’s team initially accepted the invitation but she later withdrew.

“We would like to thank Cabin Radio for the invitation to attend their radio debate. Kimberly sends her regrets to Cabin Radio and the participants, thank you for the invitation,” a spokesperson for Fairman’s campaign wrote in a brief statement on Saturday.

Fairman has separately completed a 20-minute interview with Cabin Radio, as all candidates are being invited to do, which will be broadcast and published as a transcript in the coming week.

The Green, Liberal and NDP candidates have agreed to take part in a live broadcast hosted by Cabin Radio’s Ollie Williams from 8pm till 9:30pm on Thursday, April 10.

The debate will air on Cabin Radio’s live audio stream. It’ll also appear as a podcast and a transcript.

Candidates are able to choose between broadcasting from Cabin Radio’s Yellowknife studios or appearing remotely if they are campaigning elsewhere in the territory. The date was agreed in consultation with candidates.
