YK Citizens for Ceasefire is organizing a screening of No Other Land followed by a panel discussion to raise funds for clean drinking water in Gaza.

The film, made by a Palestinian-Israeli collective, documents Palestinian resistance to the destruction of the occupied West Bank’s Masafer Yatta by Israel between 2019 and 2023. It took home the 2025 Oscar for best documentary feature.

YK Citizens for Ceasefire said all funds raised from the screening event will go to its Yellowknife Well of Hope project, which aims to build a community water well in Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza.

The group said it has so far raised $45,000 toward its $50,000 project goal since it began fundraising in February.

It said drilling was completed on the ground to provide water to the community during the ceasefire in Gaza, but operation of the well has since been paused as residents had to evacuate.

YK Citizens for Ceasefire has organized marches and rallies in Yellowknife since late 2023 calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict, humanitarian aid for Gaza and an arms embargo on Israel.

The group and its fundraising arm NWT4Gaza said they have raised around $100,000 to support families in Gaza with connections to Yellowknife’s Palestinian community in addition to the $45,000 toward the well project.

No Other Land runs for 95 minutes.

After this article was first published, Chris Wood, the general manager of Yellowknife’s Capitol Theatre, advised that the film has been rated PG in Alberta, meaning parental guidance is advised, with a warning of mature subject matter.
