Military officials spent Thursday evening taking questions from Yellowknifers about billions of dollars in investment coming the city’s way.
The Department of National Defence has already set out some of the basics: a 15-year project that will involve major upgrades at Yellowknife Airport and some work on the city’s power and water infrastructure.
In front of a packed crowd of more than 200 people at Yellowknife’s Explorer Hotel on Thursday, residents with questions tried to understand more about issues ranging from housing and the environment to northern hiring, Indigenous consultation and whether military upgrades would place “a target on our backs.”
We had microphones around the room to capture all of the night’s questions. You can listen to our Northwest Territories news podcast, The North, for a sense of what we learned.
