A Yellowknife brewery’s cream ale has won national recognition at the 2025 Canadian Brewing Awards.
Kicksled, a product of NWT Brewing Co, won the American pale lager, pilsner and cream ale category.
The award was presented at a Saturday gala on UBC’s campus in Vancouver.
In a news release celebrating the achievement, NWT Brewing Co – which also operates The Woodyard brewhouse and eatery – said the category is “highly competitive” and typically receives one of the highest numbers of entries.
“Notably, this category was combined for the first time this year, making the win even more significant,” the company stated.
“Lagers, pilsners, and cream ales demand clean, flawless execution, with no bold hop or malt flavours to hide behind. This gold medal makes Kicksled the only beer from across the territories to win at this year’s awards – and adds to its past bronze wins at the CBAs in 2024 and 2016.”
Silver in the category went to Bossman Lager from Alberta’s 70 Acre Brew Co. Bronze was awarded to Sittler 10 Point Lager, produced by Ontario firm Something in the Water.
Winners in 50 categories and a best-in-show award were each selected through a process that involves blind tasting of the entrants.
NWT Brewing Co said its sales have now expanded into Alberta alongside the NWT, meaning Kicklsed can be found or ordered through the province’s AGLC stores.
