Whatì RCMP say they have arrested a 19-year-old after receiving tips that a drug dealer was operating from a crawlspace beneath a home in the community.
With the assistance of the homeowner – who was reportedly unaware of the person hiding in the crawlspace – police say they located approximately 140 grams of suspected crack cocaine and about $7,000 in cash.
In a press release, RCMP said Jeantae Smith of Yellowknife was arrested and charged with:
- entering a dwelling without permission with the intent to commit a crime; and
- possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Smith has been remanded into custody, RCMP stated.
“Information from the public is the best tool police have when combatting the drug trade,” police stated in a Wednesday news release.
“The Whatì RCMP wishes to express gratitude to those community members who refuse to tolerate illicit drugs in their community.”
