The City of Yellowknife says a candle left unattended was the cause of a fire at a home on Borden Drive on Thursday afternoon.

Nineteen firefighters responded to the fire, the city said in a Friday news release, and the fire was contained to the rear of the building.

The city said no injuries were reported.

“Following an investigation, the fire was determined to be accidental, caused by an unattended candle,” the city stated.

“The Yellowknife Fire Division reminds residents to always monitor open flames and candles, and to ensure they are fully extinguished before leaving the area.”
