An allegedly impaired motorist found “slumping over the wheel” on December 20 now faces charges related to drugs and illegal gun use, Hay River RCMP say.

In a Tuesday news release, police said 32-year-old Isaac Salopree had been found in a downtown parking lot, where officers discovered he possessed more than $4,600 in cash and “small quantities of suspected crack cocaine and suspected fentanyl.”

Inside the vehicle, police say they found “a sawed-off shotgun, cell phones and other drug paraphernalia” alongside an imitation handgun.

Salopree faces a total of 27 counts, 10 of which relate to alleged breaches of bail conditions.

“Impaired-by-drug charges are pending the results of a laboratory analysis,” police added.
