Alternatives North is inviting people across Canada to share reflections and artwork related to the legacy of Giant Mine.

The northern social, environmental and economic justice coalition announced the launch of its Notes to the Future Giant Mine postcard project on Monday.

It said the project aims to gather original artwork and short written reflections on what Giant Mine means to people in the past, present and future.

“Giant Mine is part of our shared history and its legacy continues to shape lives, landscapes and conversations in the North,” stated Karen Hamre, project lead with Alternatives North.

“This project invites people to document and witness these reflections together, creating a record that future generations can learn from.”

The coalition said submissions will become part of a public archive and select postcards will be showcased during Earth Week in April 2026.

The project is open to all residents of Canada and participants are “encouraged to express any emotion their truth carries including grief, hope, anger, healing, pride or uncertainty.”

Postcards may include original artwork, collage or photography; text, poems or short messages in any of the NWT’s official languages; or a combination of words and graphics. People may sign their postcards or remain anonymous.
