Kraft Hockeyville says it’s guaranteeing a winner from every province and territory in 2026 to celebrate the initiative’s 20th anniversary.

The annual contest uses a nationwide vote to help select a community for major hockey arena improvements.

This year, one NWT winner will receive $50,000 for arena upgrades, organizers say, and potentially more if they advance to the top two.

The overall national winner gets $250,000 with the runner-up awarded $100,000.

Eighty percent of an entry’s final score comes from the quality of its written submission and the other 20 percent from “photos, notes and emoji reactions” online.

The national winner also has the chance to host an NHL preseason game.

Communities have until March 1 to enter and drum up support for their proposal via the Kraft Hockeyville website.

A territorial winner will be announced on March 14 and a national winner on April 4.
