Police are asking for help identifying a male in connection with the theft of a “large sum of cash” from a home in the Old Town and Latham Island area.

On the evening of Christmas Day, police say a homeowner reported the cash had been taken from their home. In a press release Friday, police stated they believe a male entered the home while the homeowner was inside and took the cash.

The RCMP are asking anyone who might have had contact with, or video footage of, a man who was in the Latham Island and Old Town area on December 25 between 5 and 8pm. Police believe the man was possibly wearing a green or dark coat or parka.

On the evening prior, Christmas Eve, police stated people observed a man who was similarly dressed in the same area between 7 and 10pm. “The male was seen in the area, carrying a shovel, and was offering to clear snow from the residences, driveways, sidewalks,” the RCMP news release stated.

Police are also asking anyone who may have had contact with, or footage of, this man to get in contact with the RCMP’s Yellowknife detachment at 867-669-1111.

The RCMP also issued a reminder for people to be aware of their surroundings, belongings and anyone who may be in their neighbourhood.
