Inuvik’s fire division says a home on Reliance Street was badly damaged in a fire early on Saturday morning that isn’t thought to be criminal in nature.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the town said the fire just after 6am on Saturday took about half an hour to bring under control and firefighters were at the scene for five hours.
“The home sustained heavy fire damage and smoke damage throughout,” the town stated, adding the house had been unoccupied. The cause is under investigation.
A separate call on Saturday saw firefighters head to the town’s NorthMart grocery store after reports of smoke.
The town said the issue was traced to a “faulty HVAC motor” and there was no danger to the building.
