A GNWT funding program for regional youth sport events issues about $400,000 annually. This year, the territory says the fund received applications requesting more than $821,000 in total.

Thirty-four projects across the NWT will split $400,275 from the Regional Youth Sporting Events program, the territorial government said in a Tuesday news release.

The money goes to help youth participate in sport competitions, training camps, and skills development activities throughout 2026 and 2027.

The program is open to regional and territorial sport and recreation organizations, community governments and schools. Each applicant can apply for up to $25,000.

“We recognize that not all applications could be supported this year,” communities minister Vince McKay was quoted as saying.
