Yellowknife’s 2026 Canada Day parade begins at 11am on Wednesday, then the city’s Somba K’e Park is transformed into a festival space for the afternoon.
This year’s theme is “celebrating soccer with rhythm and roots,” parade organizer the Rotary Club of Yellowknife said.
(In a news release, the City of Yellowknife said the theme is northern animals. As far as we can tell, that was last year’s parade theme, although we will gladly attend a parade where the theme is northern soccer-playing wildlife.)
The parade runs from the aquatic centre along the freshly renamed Wıìlıìdeh Avenue (50 Avenue) to Sir John Franklin High School.
From 12pm till 7pm in Somba K’e Park, a ceremony hosted by Cabin Radio broadcaster Jasmine Nasogaluak will include live music and cultural performances.
The city promises family-friendly activities – including a foam party from 12-1:30pm – alongside a “food of the world” market presented in partnership with the Multicultural Community of Yellowknife.
