An internal investigation into allegations of staff misconduct at Yellowknife’s French-language daycare, La Garderie Plein Soleil, found no evidence of wrongdoing, the daycare says.

The investigation also found no evidence of harm caused to children, a news release issued by the daycare stated.

In January, the daycare suspended three employees over allegations of misconduct related to the apparent shaking of a child and staff reportedly being seen to force-feed a child until they vomited.

It was not clear at the time who made the allegations, nor what evidence was available to support the claims.

The daycare said it retained an independent investigator to examine the allegations and no evidence to support those claims was found.

The suspended staff members have been cleared to return to work, the news release stated.

“With the investigation now closed, the daycare continues its normal day-to-day operations and
remains focused on providing a safe, nurturing educational environment,” the daycare added.

In an email to Cabin Radio on Tuesday, a spokesperson for NWT RCMP said its investigation into the matter was ongoing but no charges had been laid.

In January, the territory’s Department of Education, Culture and Employment said it was gathering information to determine whether an investigation related to legislative non-compliance was required.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the department said there was insufficient evidence, based on the information available, to proceed with a formal investigation.
