SPOILER ALERT: We’ll tell you the score a little lower down, so if you don’t want to know, stop here and just watch the video.
The game is played in honour of Kevin Olson and Cyril Fyfe, who gave their lives fighting a fire in 2005, and Christopher Worden, who was killed doing his job as an RCMP constable in Hay River two years later.
Money raised at this year’s event will be used by the Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation to support cancer care programs for NWT residents.
For those unable to attend, Cabin Radio broadcast this year’s game live, in full, via our Facebook page.
In this year’s contest, the RCMP took an early 2-0 lead and were three goals ahead in the third period when the firefighters mounted a late rally.
The fire division brought the game back to 3-2 with five minutes remaining, setting up a frantic finale, only for the RCMP to poach an empty-net goal in the final minute to settle the tie.
