Woman charged with manslaughter in Fort Simpson death

RCMP in Fort Simpson say they have charged a 27-year-old woman from Jean Marie River with manslaughter.

In a Monday news release, police said a woman had been found deceased at a residence in Fort Simpson on January 19.

RCMP said a medical examination determined her death was the result of a homicide.

Police said they had since arrested and charged Alison Sanguez with manslaughter in connection to the death. She remains in custody.

Sanguez is scheduled to appear in territorial court in Yellowknife on Wednesday.
