The City of Yellowknife says it’s working to introduce newer buses this spring after weeks of interruptions over “mechanical issues.”

Three of the four bus routes – the B, B Express and C services – have reported at least some cancellations over the past week alone.

In a Thursday news release, the city acknowledged those problems and said it is “working with the transit provider” to introduce a new, “more accessible” fleet of buses across all routes in the spring.

“Yellowknife’s public transit buses have been experiencing an unprecedented number of mechanical issues over the past few months due to the age and condition of the current transit fleet,” the city stated.

The types of bus to be introduced were not specified.

“These buses will have accessible features with low floors to allow for an enhanced user experience,” the city stated, promising a new bus would also arrive for the Yellowknife Accessible Transit System.
