A man faces charges of robbery, uttering threats and obstructing a police officer after reported knifepoint robberies at two Yellowknife stores.
RCMP say staff at the city’s downtown liquor store reported being threatened with a knife on Monday evening as they tried to stop a man leaving with stolen items.
Around seven hours later, at 4:30am on Tuesday, police were called to the Circle K gas station and told a man had “entered the store and threatened staff with a knife” before stealing goods and cash.
In a Wednesday news release, RCMP said David Maniyogina was identified as the suspect in both instances and taken into custody later on Tuesday morning.
The charges have not yet been heard in court and Maniyogina is assumed innocent until proven guilty.
He is expected to appear in court on Thursday, police stated.
