Police in Hay River say they have arrested and charged three people after being told someone was “seriously injured and being held hostage” in the town.
Officers say they liberated the injured person and took them to hospital on Thursday. There’s no immediate update on their condition.
Police say they found 700g of suspected crack cocaine, a gun, a replica gun and more than $17,000 in cash inside the same home following the initial search for the hostage.
According to RCMP, one of the three people arrested, 19-year-old Evan Rochon of British Columbia, had also fled an officer “at high speed” when police tried to stop his vehicle for an unrelated traffic offence a day earlier. The vehicle was “located a short time later having collided with a signpost,” police said in a Saturday news release.
RCMP said Rochon and 21-year-old Hindowa Sama, also of BC, face a range of charges related to drug trafficking, illegal firearms, aggravated assault and forcible confinement. Rochon is also charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and flight from an officer.
Trisha Tambour, a 40-year-old from Hay River, is charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking, police said.
