RCMP in Yellowknife say charges against three youths are pending after multiple businesses reported a gang of teenage girls causing damage and threatening violence.

In a Facebook post appealing for information, Daryl Dolynny – whose wife, Cindy, owns Yellowknife’s Shoppers Drug Mart – said five individuals were “collectively responsible for a large number of in-store damage and product loss.”

Other residents reported similar incidents involving a downtown pub, the liquor store and even a church.

At the liquor store, an employee said a colleague had been attacked with a scalpel.

In a Thursday update to Cabin Radio, an RCMP spokesperson said three incidents in the past two weeks had been reported to police.

“They have all occurred at downtown businesses and involve a group of teenage girls coming into the business and causing damage while stealing items,” Cpl Matt Halstead said by email.

“Charges against three youth are pending in relation to the reported incidents. The Yellowknife RCMP would like to encourage any business owners who have had similar incidents occur to report them to the police.”

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, people aged under 18 who are charged with crimes cannot be named.
