Cabin Radio has been shortlisted in two categories at the Canadian Association of Journalists’ national awards for work completed in 2023.
For the second year in a row, Cabin Radio is shortlisted in the national daily excellence category, this time for its coverage of the NWT’s wildfires and evacuations. (Last year, it was shortlisted for coverage of the royal visit to Dettah.)
Reporter Caitrin Pilkington, now at the CBC in Yukon, is shortlisted in the freedom of information category for her reporting on the Status of Women Council of the NWT.
Winners will be announced at a Toronto ceremony on June 1.
Pilkington’s work is shortlisted alongside contributions from The Globe and Mail, CBC News Toronto, Journal de Montréal and The Narwhal.
Cabin Radio’s wildfire coverage is shortlisted for daily excellence alongside The Hamilton Spectator and three CBC News entries from Toronto, Montreal and Manitoba.
The full shortlists are available on the CAJ’s website.
Cabin Radio will also deliver a keynote speech at this year’s CAJ conference, discussing how last year’s wildfires and evacuations were covered as well as the future of news in Canada.
