Editor’s note: Following publication of this report, charges against Rukundo Fota and Brian Swallow were stayed.
Police in Hay River say two people face a range of charges after more than $17,000 and four stolen guns were found in a trailer.
In a Wednesday news release, RCMP said the trailer had been “unlawfully parked on town property” and residents had told police the trailer’s occupants were “trying to keep others away from the area.”
When RCMP and municipal enforcement turned up last week, police say officers saw firearms, arrested two people and came back with a search warrant.
That search turned up “over $17,000 in cash suspected to be proceeds of crime, four stolen firearms as well as other weapons,” RCMP stated.
Police named 22-year-old Rukundo Fota of Alberta and 36 year-old Brian Swallow of Hay River as the two people arrested.
They are charged with various offences related to illegal firearms as well as possessing property obtained by crime and mischief.
