Downtown Yellowknifers will have a closer location than Old Airport Road to return their recyclables this summer.
A recycling depot pop-up opened at Somba K’e Park across from the Jump Start Playground last Thursday.
It will be open every Thursday from noon to 7pm until September 12 for residents to recycle empty containers and some electronic items.
All containers must be clean with the caps and straws removed before they are recycled. No refund will be given for recycling electronics.
Rylund Johnson was one of the first residents to use the pop-up depot last week. He had called for a downtown recycling depot when he was the MLA for Yellowknife North, saying it would help residents who otherwise have to walk across the city to exchange recyclables for cash.
The Bottle Shop Recycling Depot on Old Airport Road will remain open as usual.
