Bradley Perrault and Dana Martin are $1 million richer after winning a Lotto Max draw last month.
The Yellowknife couple were visiting family in Sherwood Park, Alberta, when they stopped at a Save On Foods in Edmonton to purchase a Lotto ticket the day before the August 20 draw, according to a press release.
“I had this gut-feeling that I should check the ticket,” Perrault said of checking the ticket two days later. “I saw the first couple zeroes – and the rest I couldn’t believe it.”
He said his face “went from its usual scowl to a huge smile from ear-to-ear.”
Martin said she also hade a “huge grin” on her face when Perrault called her to give her the good news.
“It’s pretty unbelievable and so surreal,” she said.
The couple said they are still considering what to do with their winnings, although Martin said they are “happy to have less stress and to be able to do what we want.”
“It’s going to give us the option to do more, we just don’t know what that is yet,” she said. “We are thinking of moving to Alberta, and this money will give us the flexibility to do things on our timeline.”
