The City of Yellowknife’s updated transit routes enter service for the first time on Tuesday morning as October begins.

In September, the city announced revised routes including a new “YK Connector” that will offer service every half hour between stops like Stanton Territorial Hospital, the city’s pool, downtown Yellowknife, Old Town and Ndılǫ.

There are also new fares: $2 per single ticket for all riders, 10-ride passes costing $18 full fare or $12 discounted, and annual passes costing $750 full fare or $500 discounted.

The changes followed consultations and a review of the transit system.

The city previously launched a new fleet of accessible buses in April following a series of “unprecedented mechanical issues” with the old ones.

City Hall says it will rebrand the Yellowknife Accessible Transit System under the name YKFlex, while a new real-time bus tracking app is promised soon.
