Cabin Radio’s guide to 2024 New Year’s Eve events

December is almost done but there are still plenty of festive events planned to ring in the new year across the NWT.

We’ll update this list as more events are scheduled.

Behchokǫ̀

A New Year’s Eve fireworks show is taking place at midnight on Tuesday, December 31 at the cultural centre.

A New Year’s Eve party featuring The Stray Dogs will begin at 9pm on Tuesday, December 31 at the Kǫ Gocho Centre. Tickets are available for purchase at the community government office.

Délı̨nę

Family fun night runs at the arena from 7pm till 12am on Tuesday, December 31. From 2pm on Wednesday, January 1 there’s a party at the ski hill with fireworks.

Dettah

A New Year’s Day feast will be held by the Yellowknives Dene First Nation at Chief Drygeese Hall from 5pm on Wednesday, January 1. All are welcome.

Fort Providence

A family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration will begin at 4pm at Nahecho Keh Hall on Tuesday, December 31 featuring a chili/pizza contest, a talent show open mic, dance and fireworks display.

Fort Smith

The Town of Fort Smith is holding a fireworks show starting at 7pm on Tuesday, December 31 at the landslide hill, lookout and snowboard hill. Head there early for hot chocolate. Parking is at Riverside Park off Mills St.

The annual Christmas Classic hockey tournament runs December 27-29.

Hay River

The town is holding Festival at the Forks on Tuesday, December 31, with a bonfire from 7pm and fireworks at the ice road crossing at 8pm.

West Point First Nation is planning a fireworks show in front of the band office (1-47031 Mackenzie Highway) at 11:55pm on Tuesday, December 31.

Inuvik

The Inuvik Community Events Society is holding a free New Year’s Eve community feast and old time dance at the Midnight Sun Complex on Tuesday, December 31 from 5pm to 2am.

Kátł’odeeche First Nation

There’s a new year’s feast and drum dance from 5pm on Wednesday, January 1 at the Chief Lamalice Complex.

Wrigley

Pehdzeh Ki First Nation is hosting a new year’s eve celebration on Tuesday, December 31 at 6pm at the community complex featuring Ernest Monias and Johnny Landry.

Yellowknife

An alcohol free Bollywood New Year’s Eve party is planned for Tuesday, December 31 beginning at 7:30pm at Northern United Place. Entry is free but donations will go to the NWT SPCA. Attendees are asked to register in advance due to capacity limits.

Residents can enjoy the City of Yellowknife’s New Year’s Eve fireworks from Samba K’e Civic Plaza beginning at 8pm on Tuesday, December 31.
