This year’s Yellowknife Burger Week raised $6,092 for the YK Food Bank over the course of the 11-day event.
Yellowknifers spent September 25-October 5 tasting specialty burgers from nine of the city’s restaurants, with some of the proceeds from each sale going toward the local food bank.
As they ate, residents collected stamps in their burger week passports. People who collected three or more stamps from different restaurants were entered to win a series of prizes.
Prize winners were drawn live on Cabin Radio’s morning show, Mornings at the Cabin, on the morning of Friday, October 25. See below for the list of winners.
Prizes included a round-trip trip for two between Yellowknife and Edmonton from Canadian North, a $1,000 gift card for Top of the World Travel from Spectacular NWT, and two full three-day festival passes from Folk on the Rocks.
In addition, Home Hardware donated a barbecue as a prize, Top of the World Travel donated two suitcases packed with burger supplies, and Barren Ground Coffee is giving away coffee and merch.
There was a $500 gift card from the Co-op up for grabs, while the Black Knight, Woodyard, Coyote’s Family Steakhouse, Trapline Lounge, Boston Pizza and Copperhouse all donated gift cards.
Printing of the passports and posters was donated by KopyKat North.
Since 2020, when the first Yellowknife Burger Week was held, the event has raised more than $30,000 for local non-profits.
“We are very pleased to be the recipient of this year’s fundraiser. Thank you for thinking of us,” YK Food Bank said as burger week began.
In total, participating restaurants raised $5,302.50. The Explorer Hotel chipped in an additional $790 to round out its donation to an even $1,000, bringing the overall total to $6,092.50.
Cabin Radio, which presents Yellowknife Burger Week with the help of many sponsors, thanks all of this year’s participating restaurants for their generous contributions.
We’re grateful both to restaurants who chose to take part for the first time and to those who have backed our annual initiative since the start.
