The NWT government has launched a website allowing businesses to apply for or renew their licences online.

If your community doesn’t have its own business licensing program, or if you are operating outside a community, your licence is issued by the GNWT.

For example, Yellowknife has its own licensing program so businesses in the territorial capital hold municipally issued licences. But many smaller communities don’t have any such service, so the GNWT issues their licences instead.

Now, those businesses can apply online or use online renewal rather than having to use mail or email. (Those options remain available.)

In a press release, the GNWT called the change “a major step forward in creating a more business-friendly environment and supporting economic growth across the territory.”
