“A grieving widow gets a new perspective on life after she meets a good-looking but oddly familiar stranger – who also strangely resembles a local ice sculpture.”
That’s how Netflix’s PR wing describes Hot Frosty, a holiday rom-com arriving on the streaming giant next month.
Yes, this is Frosty the Snowman except with chiselled abs and Lacey Chabert.
To quote one of the thousands of commenters beneath the trailer: “This looks horribly cheesy and I want all the cheese.”
The good news? Yellowknife residents have a legitimate reason to watch Hot Frosty: the city’s own Dustin Milligan stars in it.
Milligan, better known outside the NWT as Schitt’s Creek veterinarian Ted, plays Jack, who is magically brought to life when said grieving widow puts her scarf around an ice sculpture.
“Through his naivete, the snowman helps Kathy [grieving widow] to laugh, feel, and love again, as the two fall for each other just in time for the holidays … and before he melts,” states Netflix.
“It’s refreshing – especially around Christmastime – to experience the magic and the wonder of that season through Jack,” Milligan was quoted as saying.
“He is seeing things brand-new for the very first time and experiencing them with a very trustworthy guide.”
Jack spends a fair amount of time in the trailer shirtless.
In an interview with People, Milligan added: “The physical comedy was such a joy for me, but exposing my body on camera brings up a lot of insecurities and body-image issues I have.
“To do a character like Jack justice, I had to let go in a way I’ve never done before and just be fully physically liberated in every single scene, which simultaneously challenged the discomfort that being so exposed brought and allowed the pure joy I was feeling shine through – I hope!”
Milligan said he channelled the likes of Will Ferrell in Elf, alongside old Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin movies, to get the performance he wanted.
Hot Frosty arrives on your TV on November 13.
