Tłı̨chǫ act Digawolf will release a new album, Trapline, in spring 2025. The first track from that album, Snowshoes, arrived on Tuesday.
In a press release, the band’s publicist described the album as “a journey of growth from childhood mystery to the harsh realities of life in Canada’s North.”
Snowshoes was described as “an anthem for northern celebration.”
Frontman Diga said of the track: “Across a frozen lake, a couple sits by their cabin’s fire, preparing themselves for a long evening with friends under the starry northern skies.
“Strapping their snowshoes on, the draw of the warmth of friendship is enough to brave the snow-laden landscapes for a festival created from snow and ice, a fire surrounded by close friends, and music that inspires you to celebrate.”
This week’s press release calls Diga “the North’s answer to Neil Young and Tom Waits.”
Trapline will be Digawolf’s eighth album and Diga’s ninth, counting 2005’s Earth is Crying, released under the name Diga, the stage name for Jesse Gon.
It’s the first Digawolf album since 2022’s Įnı̀ (Spirit), which was recorded entirely in the Tłı̨chǫ language.
