RCMP say they have charged a 39-year-old man from Toronto with trafficking drugs in the NWT for the third time this year.

In a Monday press release, police said they most recently charged Savy You following an investigation in Hay River.

RCMP said they began investigating on November 21 after an unnamed person posted a photo of a firearm on social media and alluded to drug trafficking occurring at an apartment on Woodland Drive.

RCMP said they executed a search warrant on the apartment the following day where they seized approximately 17 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 14 grams of suspected fentanyl, a handgun, ammunition and more than $3,000 in cash.

RCMP arrested five people, four of whom they released without charge.

Police charged You with possessing cocaine and fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possessing property obtained by crime under $5,000, failure to comply with release order conditions, failure to attend court and several firearms-related charges.

RCMP said You appeared before a justice of the peace on the charges and was remanded into custody.

At the time of his arrest, RCMP said You was on court conditions to live at a residence in Toronto and was the subject of an arrest warrant as he had failed to attend court on previous charges.

You was previously charged in March after police said they found suspected fentanyl and crack cocaine during a search of a home in Hay River. He was then charged in June related to a drug trafficking investigation in Fort Simpson.

None of the charges against him have been proven in court.
