RCMP say a 27-year-old is accused of assault with a weapon, uttering threats, mischief and other firearms offences after an incident in Ndilǫ on Wednesday evening.
Residents in Ndilǫ reported an extensive police presence in the community. Video footage showed a police operation appearing to result in someone surrendering themselves.
In a Thursday news release, police said they had “peacefully apprehended an armed suspect” identified as Brenden Depencier.
According to RCMP, officers had been told the suspect had access to a long gun, “had armed themselves with a knife and was threatening another occupant” of a Ndilǫ home.

“After the residence was contained, the suspect emerged and was taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported. A firearm was recovered from the scene,” police stated.
RCMP said Depencier was already “subject to release conditions stemming from robbery charges in Yellowknife and various weapons offences in Ontario.”
Police said he has been remanded into custody ahead of a court appearance on Friday.
